Aaron Betsky's argument that gay people have historically been pioneers of spatial innovation — reclaiming neighbourhoods, redefining interiors and crafting environments of stagecraft and self-definition out of hostile surroundings. Queer space names a sensual, appropriative "misuse" of place that points toward an architecture freed from imprisoning norms.
