First director of the Académie Royale d'Architecture; defended absolute, harmonic proportion in Part V of his Cours d'architecture (1683), opposing Perrault in the architectural front of the Querelle des Anciens et des Modernes. The Cours d'architecture was published in parts from 1675 (Part I) to 1683 (Part V). The source year 1683 reflects the final volume; the series as a whole spans 1675–1683.
